Let’s Talk About Laser Hair Removal

It’s estimated that on average in her lifetime a woman shaves her legs approximately 7718 times. As fun as this sounds there are definitely better ways to spend our time.

What people do with their hair is completely up to them to grow it out, or keep it trimmed or get rid of the lot. If you fall into the de-fuzzing category the chore of waxing or shaving on a weekly, monthly or even daily basis can start to feel like a complete burden.

With waxing and shaving bringing their own problems, shaving rash, ingrown hairs or the discomfort of a wax to name a few.  The benefits of these hair removal techniques are not that long lasting a few days to a week at the most if you’re lucky.

This is where laser hair removal comes into its own as it’s a more effective long-lasting treatment for hair removal.

How does it work?

It works via beam of light which is delivered over the skin and absorbed by the pigment in the hair, the light energy is converted into heat which then damages the hair follicles disrupting the hair growth.

What results can be expected?

Results will not be immediate, and you may need a few treatments before you see a noticeable difference.  This is because for the treatment to be effective the hair treated needs to be in the growing or anagen phase of hair growth. This allows the laser light to be absorbed right at the follicle.  As not all hair grows in the same phase at the same time multiple treatments are required to ensure each hair is captured in this phase.  As multiple treatments are required, we also need to space the treatments into 4-to-6-week intervals to have a better chance at capturing hair in the growing phase.

How long will the treatments take?

Treatments are pretty quick and areas like lip and chin can take as little as 15 minutes to complete with full legs or backs taking no more than 30 to 40 mins.

Is it painful?

Many people ask if its painful and the simple answer is no.  The method we use at Laser Skin Therapy uses a cooling gel which is applied to the skin and the laser handle is passed over the treatment area.  Some clients experience a little heat in the treatment area or a tingling sensation.

When is the best time to start?

Winter is the best time to start hair removal treatments, exposing any body areas to sun during hair removal treatments can damage the skin and cause pigmentation changes in the skin.  This also applies to tanning either natural or fake the pigment in the skin can attract the light from the laser and could also potentially damage the skin.

You can’t ditch the razor just yet as the treatment area will require shaving between treatments and just before each appointment. Until your course of treatments is complete shaving should be your only method of hair removal.

What areas can be treated?

At Laser Skin Therapy we treat most areas of the body, with our most popular areas including legs, underarms and bikini, but back, shoulders and chest are also popular amongst male clients.

How much does it cost?

Laser Hair Removal is a short term investment but in the long term you will safe money, with the amount spent on monthly bikini waxes from the age of 18 to 50 estimated at around £10,000 on you bikini line alone!! That’s just waxing and doesn’t include razors and other methods of hair removal purchased over the years.

Once completing your course of treatments you may need top up treatments to maintain your achieved results.
