How amazing would it feel to never have to wax, shave or pluck ever again? With the added bonus of no pain, no ingrown hairs or finding the time to book appointments with your beautician what are you waiting for?

Within our clinic we use IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) as the method our hair removal. This works by emitting a wavelength via a visible light source onto the skin which then targets the melanin (pigment) in the hair causing a heat reaction which then destroys the hair follicle, allowing for permanent hair reduction. As this treatment works by targeting the melanin in the hair, clients with darker hair will find treatments most effective due to the high concentration of melanin in dark hair.

What to expect?

Firstly the area to be treated must be shaved before and during your course of treatments, that means no waxing or plucking throughout.

If you are having your face treated a common concern is that the hair will go back thicker, THIS IS A MYTH!!! The hair may grow back faster but definitely not thicker.
If you have waxed you must wait at least 4 weeks before booking your appointment.

Coupling gel is applied to the treatment area and short bursts of light are applied throughout the area to ensure all hair is targeted. You will be required to wear safety glasses throughout your treatment.
We endeavour to maintain your dignity and comfort at all times and will ensure that throughout your treatments you are happy and comfortable. During your treatments we are aiming to target hair during the anagen (growing) phase of hair growth cycle, as each hair may not be at the same stage at the same time hair regrowth with return in patches and also appear finer.

How does it feel?

Every clients experience is different and it really depends on the individual, most explain it feeling like a tingling warm sensation or like being snapped quickly with a rubber band.

How long will it take?

To achieve permanent hair reduction usually takes between 6 – 8 treatments, these are carried out at 4 week intervals to ensure all hair can be treated during the anagen (growing) phase of hair growth, for those clients who have hormonal imbalances causing excess hair growth further treatments may be required.

Once your course of treatments have finished you will need to have maintenance treatments at least once a year to maintain your achieved results. Treatment times vary depending on the area to be treated, where small areas can be completed within 20 minutes larger areas may require up to 45 minutes to treat. This can be discussed with the therapist in relation to your treatment plan.
